Vision

To unfold the inherent secrecy, beauty and creativity of physical science to enrich scientific temper among the future technocrats.

Mission

To make the students understand the concepts of Physics for the effective application in the field of engineering and technology by the best use of infrastructure available in the department.

Welcome to Department of Physics

The Department of Physics came into existence since the inception of the Institute (i.e. in the year 1979). The Department has good infrastructure with a spacious working area, consisting of two Laboratories, HOD’s Cabin, Staff Rooms and Research Laboratory.

The department has well qualified, dedicated and self motivated faculty members and the supporting staff. The Department has been getting excellent results both in theory and practical examinations. The staff members have very good interaction with students and involve themselves in the welfare of the students to ensure good academic performance.

Student Centric and Activity Based Learning: Activity based learning such as Open Book Assignments, Quizzes, Seminars and Open Ended Experiments are introduced for the First Year BE Students. Further, to make teaching-learning process to be more interactive, the teaching aids such as PPTs and Lecture Videos are being employed. The primary focus is to encourage the students gain knowledge in basic sciences and develop with exceptional creativity. All classrooms are equipped with LCD Projectors to enable multi modes of teaching. The entire department is Wi-Fi enabled, ensuring easy access of information to both staff and students. The department has a well-established library apart from Central Library. Students can refer the books in the department library. Each division of BE-I year is assigned with a Class Teacher, who takes care of personal issues and academic performance of the students by conducting meetings periodically. The Parent-Teachers meetings are conducted to discuss the academic performance of their wards. Center of Astrophysics: Department has signed MoU with Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru for establishing the Center of Astrophysics. UG or PG students can utilize the facility for their projects/ internship. As a part of exploration for social services, public outreach programs can be conducted. As learning is the continuous process, Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is organized every year to update the knowledge of teachers. Faculty members are deputed to attend FDP’s by extending financial support. Department of Physics has the recognized Research Centre from VTU. Students are pursuing Ph.D. in different areas of Physics at the research centre. Faculty members/students are encouraged to attend National/International Conferences to present their research innovations and publish their articles in the peer reviewed journals.
